Martha Stewart & Me

Have you seen the latest Martha Stewart Living magazine?  One of its headlines grabbed my attention and I just had to buy it:  “Martha’s New Craft Room.”  Now will that be the mother of all craft rooms or what?

Turns out her craft room is quite similar to mine in layout.  They are both upstairs extra rooms:  hers is an attic, mine a bonus room.  They both have gabled side walls that slope inward, so not much vertical space, but roomy nonetheless.

Here are photos of our craft rooms, side by side:

We’re practically twins, aren’t we?  How does she do it all?  Running Omnimedia and being a craft diva?  Even her craft supplies are pristine-looking:

I love my studio, mess and all.  After all, who can get anything done if I’m constantly having to clean up?  And I do, weekly.  Mostly.  Unless another quilt is calling me, which I hear now . . . . . .

Martha. eat your heart out! I’d rather have yours, it’s real. I bet she had the photo stylist’s minions clearing the clutter before the photos were taken. (don’t mean to sound so bitchy, sorry)

    Hi Helen!
I know what you mean. Martha’s craft room looks wonderful, but it’s hard to be creative when you don’t want to make a mess. Or maybe she has lots of wannabees hanging around who clean up after her. That’s a little creepy!

Where did you get that wonderful middle of the room cupboard/shelving/work station?

    Hi Beth –
My husband built it from pre-fab kitchen cabinets available at Home Depot. He offered to build one from scratch, but I knew if he could just put the units together that already had drawers and shelving, the island would go together far more quickly. It’s made from one drawer unit, two shelving units, and a countertop.

    Thanks for stopping by!
