Quilt Project Runway: Showcasing Fall Quilt Market 2008

Now that I’m unpacked, kids are all settled back in their routines, and hubby’s 43rd birthday’s all celebrated with a handmade card from all of us, I can share with you what I saw and what will be coming soon to your local quilt shop.  I’m calling this Quilt Project Runway, showing you the hottest and latest quilts and trends coming from the mega-event Fall Quilt Market.  Everyday this week and next I’ll show you what’s new and exciting in the quilting world, and what you can expect to see in your local quilt shop.

In this month’s email newsletter, I’ll be covering what I see as the latest trends in quilting, separating the fluff from the good stuff, and how you can take advantage of what I saw to make your quilts more exciting, better, and easier.  If you don’t subscribe already, you can do so here.

Today, let’s look at Barb Adams and Alma Allen of Kansas City Star books and their new quilt featured in When the Cold Wind Blows: Quilts and Projects to Keep You Warm.  Quilts were all muted tans, blues, pinks, and browns (dull intensities, light-medium values for color masters!).  Blocks ranged from giant applique to small baskets.  Interesting finishes other than bindings:  tan-dyed jumbo rick-rack and ruffles.  Here’s one of their quilts being shown at schoolhouse:

This quilt was made in a week. Looks complicated, but fused and no binding.
