The Great Gingerbread Smash

They’re waiting so patiently.  It’s become an annual tradition around here to make a delightful gingerbread house, and in January smash it to crumbs in our driveway.  They look forward to it almost as much as making it.  Last year I captured it on video and it was hilarious – until the gingerbread came flying at me!

But, it’s been raining here for days.  Flood watches.  Our neighbor’s retaining wall washed out, along with their driveway, and they had to be rescued.  We’re fine here, but it’s not exactly gingerbread smashing weather.  So, they wait.  And wait.  “Can we do it now?”

This is also the last photo of my older son as a child.  This weekend, he officially becomes a teenager.  He’s ready.  Am I?

I added a new little widget to my sidebar:  the Color Mastery blog widget.  It shows you what I’m up to over at the CM book blog.  I’ll start slowly at first, and really gear up for the book launch in February.  And watch for the first-ever quilting book blog tour, where I’ll be touring blogs around the world and discussing getting better color in your quilts every time.  And watch for the Quilts & Creativity email newsletter next week!  You can sign up by clicking on the Email Newsletter tab at the top of this blog.

But before then, I’ll post this year’s gingerbread smash video, even if we have to smash it from the ark.

And thank you for being so patient for me to announce the final winners of the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway.  We had some lovely family time at home and vacationed at the beach.  The winners are Esther and Laurie in Maine!  Send me your mailing address to maria[at]colormastery.com!

  1. OK, love the smashing idea! I’ll have to remember when my nieces and I have our annual gingerbread decorating day in 09.
